Sarajevo's Top Exports: Furniture, Electricity, Medical Products

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - According to data from the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH, cited in the Draft Budget of Sarajevo Canton for 2019, the foreign trade exchange of the Sarajevo Canton economy with the world in 2017 amounted to almost six billion BAM. Compared to 2016, an increase of 25.7% was recorded, representing 30.1% of the total foreign trade exchange of FBiH.

The leading partners in the foreign trade exchange of SC remain Croatia, Germany, Slovenia, and Serbia. The total exports of SC in 2017 reached a value of 1,518 million BAM, which is as much as 46.1% more than in 2016, and represents 20.9% of FBiH's exports. The share of SC's exports in FBiH's exports increased by 4.6 percentage points compared to 2016. The total imports of SC in 2017 increased by 20% compared to 2016 and amounted to 4,402 million BAM. SC participates with more than one-third (35.4%) in the total imports of FBiH, which is an increase of 2.1 percentage points compared to the previous year.

The top 10 exported goods for SC account for 86.7% of SC's total exports. The main exports include: furniture and parts thereof (slightly over 500 million BAM in 2017, while in 2016 it was over 200 million BAM), electricity (exactly 200 million BAM in December 2017 compared to almost the same amount in the same month of 2016), medical and pharmaceutical products amounting to over 100 million BAM in the period January – December 2017, while in the same period of 2016 it was at almost the same level.

The top 10 imported goods for SC account for 55.5% of SC's total imports. The main imports include: oil and petroleum products (over 700 million BAM in December 2017, while a year earlier it was slightly above 600 million BAM), road vehicles (over 300 million BAM in 2017 compared to below 300 million BAM in 2016), and electrical machinery, apparatus, and appliances (over 200 million BAM in 2017, while in 2016 it was over 150 million BAM).
