From OHR to Patria: Everyone in BiH, including the RS authorities, must respect the rulings of the Constitutional Court

OHR is considering the decision of the National Assembly of the RS on holding a referendum on marking January 9 as the Day of RS, they say for Patria from the Office of the High Representative.

- Although it is obvious that holidays are a sensitive issue in BiH, the rule of law must always be respected. Let us reiterate that all authorities in BiH, including those in the Republika Srpska, have an obligation to implement the final and binding rulings of the Constitutional Court of BiH.

Efforts to circumvent this obligation through a referendum or in any other way do not relieve a particular authority of that obligation, which is clearly stated in the Peace Agreement. The Constitutional Court of BiH is one of the key pillars of the Dayton framework, and its decisions must be respected and implemented in order to uphold the Constitution of BiH and the rule of law, which is in the interest of everyone in this country - they say from the OHR.

We remind you, the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska made a decision to call a referendum on January 9 as the Day of RS, and the date for holding the referendum is set for September 25, 2016.

The National Assembly of the Republika Srpska today adopted with 63 votes "for" the Decision on calling a republic referendum and elected and appointed the Republic Commission for conducting the referendum, writes the news agency Patria.
