As is the case with any other country, it is up to BiH to decide on its future. NATO does not force anyone to join the Alliance. It is a sovereign decision of sovereign states, they said in a comment for the Patria agency from the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo, after the National Assembly of RS adopted the Resolution on the declaration of military neutrality of that BiH entity on Wednesday morning.
The resolution, which was adopted by the votes of the ruling coalition SNSD, SP and SDS-K, states that RS is committed to coordinating any future status with the Republic of Serbia as a signatory to the Dayton Agreement.
“At the request of the BiH authorities, the NATO Headquarters Sarajevo has been supporting defense reform since its establishment at the end of 2004, providing expert advice and assistance to BiH in its efforts in the context of defense reform and the Partnership for Peace. We are aware of the different views in BiH regarding these issues. NATO will continue to work with BiH institutions, providing support for its long-term foreign policy goal of full Euro-Atlantic integration,” stated the NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, writes Patria.
