(Patria) - An Italian military plane crashed during an exercise near Turin, hitting a car carrying an entire family and killing a five-year-old girl, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stated.
The Italian news agency AGI reported that the victim's nine-year-old brother was seriously injured, while the parents and the plane's pilot were not in life-threatening condition.
"The Ministry expresses its condolences to the family members," Crosetto said in a statement,
adding that he had "made available all resources and skills for emergency management and to support all people involved," Reuters reported.
Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the pilot had abandoned the plane by parachuting.
"A terrible tragedy. Prayers and a sincere embrace of condolences," Salvini said.
