Italy, Spain and China Criticize Israel for Attack on Lebanon

(Patria) - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that Israel violated the two-week truce with Iran by attacking Lebanon yesterday. She said that restoring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is of key interest to Italy and the entire European Union.

"We have come to the brink of a point of no return, but now we face a fragile possibility of peace that we must resolutely pursue," Meloni told parliament, adding that Italy condemns any violation of the truce and calls for a lasting cessation of hostilities.

Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares also accused Israel of violating international law and the truce.

Spain has positioned itself as one of the loudest critics among Western nations regarding the actions of the US and Israel in Iran and Lebanon, closing its airspace to all aircraft connected to the conflict, which Madrid considers reckless and illegal.

"Yesterday we saw how Israel, ignoring the truce and violating international law, dropped hundreds of bombs on Lebanon," Albares told deputies in the lower house of parliament. Albares announced that Spain will reopen its embassy in Tehran in the hope of contributing to achieving peace in the region.

Meanwhile, Beijing stated that "Lebanon's sovereignty must not be violated" after Israel announced it had carried out attacks on Hezbollah military infrastructure.

"The sovereignty and security of Lebanon must not be violated. The safety of civilian lives and their property must be ensured," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning at a regular press conference, adding that Beijing calls for restraint and "de-escalation of the situation in the region."
