Italy withdraws its soldiers from the semi-autonomous Iraqi region of Kurdistan

(Patria) - Italy has begun withdrawing its soldiers from the semi-autonomous Iraqi region of Kurdistan following recent Iranian attacks on Erbil. Around 140 Italian soldiers remain deployed in the region, writes The Wall Street Journal.

Since the beginning of the conflict, approximately 170 members of the Italian forces have been withdrawn from the Singara camp. Of this number, 100 soldiers have returned to Italy, while 70 have been transferred to Jordan.

This decision comes at a time when information is emerging that Italy and France are negotiating with Iran to ensure safe passage for their vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
