(Patria) - Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated that the crisis in the Hormuz Strait should be resolved diplomatically, emphasizing that Italy is not participating in any naval missions that could extend to that area.
"Regarding Hormuz, I believe diplomacy must prevail," Tajani told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting in Brussels.
He explained that Italy is involved in defensive naval missions in the Red Sea but ruled out the possibility of expanding those activities. "I do not see any missions that could extend to Hormuz," he added.
This stance comes in the context of an earlier request by US President Donald Trump, who asked allies to join a mission to protect maritime traffic in the Hormuz Strait, threatening NATO if they did not.
