ROME, (Patria) - Italy has its first black representative in the Senate. Toni Iwobi was elected as a representative of the anti-immigrant League party, which is in coalition with Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia party.
Iwobi was elected in the town of Spirano, in Lombardy.
In an emotional post on his Facebook page, he wrote that after more than 25 years of struggle, another great adventure is about to begin. He thanked his party leader Matteo Salvini and everyone who supported him.
Iwobi is 62 years old and originally from Nigeria. He came to Italy to study 40 years ago, decided to stay, got married, and founded his own IT company.
Let us recall that the elections in Italy resulted in a divided parliament, and negotiations on forming a government will last for weeks, perhaps even months.
Silvio Berlusconi announced that he will support Salvini in his attempts to form a government.
