We Investigated: Sarajevo Police Uniform in Violation of the FBiH Constitution

The uniform worn by Sarajevo police officers violates the Constitution of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reveals the Patria news agency.
This scandal could soon end up before the FBiH Constitutional Court, and it will be initiated by one of the opposition parties.

Around 1,500 Sarajevo police officers wear a uniform that differs from police uniforms in other cantons within the FBiH, although this is contrary to the FBiH Constitution.

Chapter III, Article 4 of the FBiH Constitution clearly stipulates uniform police uniforms across the entire territory of the FBiH, with cantonal insignia!

Nevertheless, contrary to the FBiH Constitution, the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton in 2013 adopted a Rulebook, in Patria's possession, according to which the Ministry purchases new uniforms for the Sarajevo police, different from the police uniform in other cantons. The procurement of the new police uniform cost Sarajevo citizens around 3.5 million KM. The uniform for the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton was supplied by the company KM Trade.

The procurement of the disputed uniform will be brought before the FBiH Constitutional Court, but the opposition expects the Security Commission of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly and the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office to also comment on this scandal.

- The budget of the Sarajevo Canton has been damaged by a multi-million amount. Someone must be held accountable for this - says one of Patria's interlocutors from the police, who spoke on condition of anonymity.    

Before purchasing the disputed uniform, the Ministry bought over 1,000 sets of lawful uniforms for the Sarajevo police, worth around two million KM, but that uniform was never even taken out of storage. It was declared carcinogenic. Interestingly, just a few months after being declared dangerous, about 700 sets of that uniform were sent to the police in Posušje, Goražde and Bihać. The remainder will most likely be written off, this source further reveals, writes Patria.
