Investigation into the Incident in Potočari: Will the BiH Prosecutor's Office Also Hear Vučić as a Witness?

A month and a half has passed since the incident in Potočari, and although it is an event that significantly shook relations between the two countries, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, apart from the request of BiH Security Minister Dragan Mektić for the dismissal of Mirsad Vilić, director of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies in BiH, there are no official findings or results of the investigation that could dispel all the previous speculations and spin, mostly coming from Serbia, writes the news agency Patria.

 

SIPA brought in several individuals for informational interviews as part of the investigation led by the BiH Prosecutor's Office, and according to what is available to the public, it stopped there.

The Security Minister claimed, for the record, that it was a matter of poor inter-agency cooperation, and that SIPA refused to help with the security of the commemoration in Potočari on July 11.

-SIPA ignored this request, provided no response, and did not send the requested assistance, and now I ask what the purpose of the SIPA special unit is, Mektić said.

SIPA, on the other hand, claimed that there was a response.

-We inform you that SIPA submitted a response to the aforementioned letter to the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH on July 1, 2015, by which it informed the Directorate that this Agency, in accordance with its legal competencies, already participates in the work of the Srebrenica 2015 Action Staff, in the part related to clearly assigned tasks.

Due to the apparent misunderstanding among police agencies within BiH, cooperation with Serbian security agencies, primarily the BIA, which had information that an attack on Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić could occur, also failed to materialize.

They provided the information to someone in BiH. But the main question is to whom—all police agencies and directorates or only some selected ones.

As part of the investigation led by the BiH Prosecutor's Office, statements about everything that happened on July 11 in Potočari, as well as before during the preparations, will also be given by the heads of police agencies that participated in the work of the Organizing Committee.

It would also be interesting to see whether the BiH Prosecutor's Office, within the framework of the existing investigation, might also request Vučić's statement, as he was the target of the attack, and upon his return to Belgrade, he immediately had information about the attackers.

Certainly, his statement would greatly help in shedding light on the events of July 11.
