Strong earthquake hits eastern Turkey, people panic and take to the streets

(Patria) - An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale hit eastern Turkey tonight, according to the EMSC website.

According to EMSC data, the epicenter of the earthquake is ten kilometers from the city of Malatya, which was also severely affected by the earthquake that hit eastern Turkey and Syria in February this year.

On the other hand, according to data from the Turkish AFAD, the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.3 and occurred tonight at 20:48, at a depth of 7 kilometers.

The mayor of Malatya municipality, Selahattin Gürkan, also reported to CNN Turk, confirming that the earthquake was strong and that another tremor, magnitude 4.3, hit the municipality last night.

Footage posted on social media shows people who panicked and left their homes to take to the streets.
