(Patria) - Istanbul is being considered as a possible venue for the next round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated yesterday.
- Of course, of course - Peskov told reporters, responding to a question about it, RIA Novosti reports.
The Kremlin spokesperson announced the exchange of draft memorandums with Ukraine, with proposals for a ceasefire and a possible future peace agreement.
- The work is in the final stage, this document will appear soon - Peskov told reporters, responding to a question about the Russian draft memorandum.
He emphasized that the Kremlin will not disclose the content of the Russian draft memorandum on the Ukrainian settlement.
- We will not discuss the content of the documents. We believe that this should be done discreetly, without publicizing it, and exchanging any views through the press would be extremely wrong - Peskov believes.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, after a phone call with US President Donald Trump, told reporters that Russia is ready to cooperate with the Ukrainian side on a memorandum regarding a "possible future peace agreement with the definition of a set of positions, such as, for example, the principles of settlement and the timeframe for a possible peace agreement", which would "also include a possible ceasefire for a certain period if appropriate agreements are reached".
Peskov says that a meeting between the presidents of Russia and Ukraine is possible, but that it should be the result of concrete agreements between the delegations of the two countries.
Direct negotiations between the delegations of Russia and Ukraine were held in Istanbul on May 16. After that, the Vatican, Geneva, and Turkey were proposed as venues for the next round of negotiations.
