Confession of handball player Denis Buntić's wife: His mother is a judge, he is free, and I fear for my life

(Patria) - After it was officially announced that Denis Buntić's detention was denied, the wife of the former handball player contacted the editorial office of the portal Bljesak.info, expressing her disappointment with the decision of the Municipal Court in Ljubuški.

She fears for her own life

"We are all in shock. If it were anyone else in his place, they would have remained in detention. There are weapons, violence in front of a minor child under the influence of drugs and alcohol," Klara Buntić told Bljesak.info.

She recounted the attack and emphasized that at one point she "closed her eyes and said, whatever happens, happens." She decided to speak publicly about everything because she fears for her own life.

"If any court was Livno, Mostar, Široki Brijeg... it would have been condemned. There are four rocket launchers, automatics, bombs, Kalashnikovs. It's an arsenal of weapons in the house. If he had had time to reach them, he would have killed me. He decided to kill me. He turned away for only a second, which I used to escape through the balcony doors. If I hadn't escaped, I would have been dead on the spot," Klara recounted.

She points out that she is disappointed by the fact that the case was assigned to the Municipal Court in Ljubuški.

"Why didn't they read the facts that his mother works at the court. That's also a mistake," states Klara.

She hopes that public pressure will lead to a change of court and a final, just decision.

"He is out for coffee, and he committed a monstrous act," she stated.

She also referred to the claims of some portals about violence and confirmed that she had suffered domestic violence for five years.

"He weighs 160 kg, and I weigh 50 kg. It's impossible for a person to defend themselves, to stand up and resist. When the evil within him is triggered after alcohol and drugs, he is an unrecognizable person," she explained.

She added that after she reported him, they told her that Buntić would be in prison for at least 5-6 months, and she could not even imagine that he would be free as early as Saturday.

Additionally, there is an audio recording of the violence, and she claims that all those who listened to it were horrified by the brutality of the attack.

Denis Buntić is suspected of the criminal offense of domestic violence and illegal possession of weapons and explosive devices.

"The motion for detention was filed due to the danger of influencing witnesses and the danger of repeating criminal offenses," confirmed the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Prosecutor's Office.

Buntić retired from his national team career in 2018. With the Croatian jersey, he won two World Championship silvers, a European silver and bronze, and an Olympic bronze in 2012.
