Islamic Community Supports BiH Economy: Planting Orchards, Buying Kurban from Returnees

The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina is becoming an important factor in strengthening the domestic economy. Economic projects led by the IC in the past few years have particularly contributed to the economic empowerment of Bosniak returnees in the Republika Srpska, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

In 2014, the IC purchased more than 2,000 kurban animals from returnees, and in 2015, the number of purchased sheep and cattle from returnees in RS could be even higher. Associations dealing with the return of displaced persons to RS explain that Bosniaks in RS mostly live from agriculture, as they have difficulty finding jobs in companies in this entity of BiH, so a secure market for what they produce on their farms is one of the most important priorities for their survival on their hearths.

From 2012 until today, the Waqf Directorate of BiH has cultivated more than 50,000 square meters of waqf property, which they have planted with fruit trees.

Dr. Senaid Zajimović, director of the Waqf Directorate of BiH, previously told Patria that the Directorate will have hundreds of dunams under fruit orchards in the coming years, from which tons of fruit will be produced and exported.

And, the fact that the Islamic Community of BiH has begun to seriously engage in supporting the BiH economy is also evidenced by the establishment of a Fund into which citizens can deposit funds, which will finance the establishment of new orchards on waqf property throughout the country, writes Patria
