Islamic Community: Perpetrators and motives of the attack on ef. Velić and disruption of Friday prayer to be revealed

The office of the reis-ul-ulema Husein ef. Kavazović issued a press release regarding the incident at the Stara Breka mosque in Sarajevo and the disruption of Friday prayer, stating:

- The office of the reis-ul-ulema Husein ef. Kavazović strongly condemns the disruption of the Friday prayer service at the Stara Breka mosque in Sarajevo and the verbal attack on the imam Muhamed ef. Velić. Mosques are houses of worship and security, open to all well-intentioned people seeking a place of spiritual peace and refreshment. Any disruption of such a mosque environment represents a serious abuse, and the people who do it clearly have bad intentions and unsuitable goals.

The Islamic Community demands that the competent state authorities promptly identify the perpetrators of these incidents, determine their motives and masterminds. Preventing the performance of religious rites is not only a violation of peace and order, but should be treated as a criminal offense, as the performance of religious rites is one of the fundamental human rights and is protected by all international conventions on human rights and freedoms.

The Islamic Community expects state authorities to ensure conditions in which Muslims can live their faith in peace, and for intentional provocateurs and aggressors to be identified and prevented from causing incidents in mosques and during the performance of rites, reports the Patria news agency.
