Islamic Community of Bosniaks of North America opens mosque in St. Louis today

Today, the official opening ceremony of the Nur mosque and Islamic center in the St. Louis community of the Islamic Community of Bosniaks of North America (ICNAB) will be held. The ceremony will be attended by Reisu-l-ulema Husein ef. Kavazović with a delegation from the Riyaset of the Islamic Community in BiH, which includes the Head of the Reisu-l-ulema's Cabinet Rifat Fetić, Director of the Directorate for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Razim ef. Čolić, and Director of Gazi Husrev-beg Madrasa hfz. Mensur ef. Malkić, Patria reports.

On this occasion, the Reisu-l-ulema delivered a sermon and led the Friday prayer yesterday in this largest Bosniak community in the United States of America.

In his sermon, Reisu-l-ulema Kavazović emphasized that this is the second sermon in the USA and the second mosque that Bosniaks and the Islamic Community in BiH are opening this month. Last week, in Lawrenceville (Atlanta), Georgia, the opening ceremony of the "Sabur" mosque and Bosniak center was held, as well as the celebration of the community's twentieth anniversary.

According to the testimony of all relevant institutions, Bosniaks in St. Louis are one of the best-integrated and most influential communities in this federal state. The first wave of citizens from Bosnia and Herzegovina arrived in St. Louis in the early 1990s, as refugees during the war in BiH. A replica of Sarajevo's Sebilj was even built in the city. The construction was financed by the Bosniak community and was officially opened on the occasion of the 250th birthday of the city of St. Louis.
