(Patria) - Members of the Islamic State affiliate ISIS-K could cross the US border and carry out an attack similar to the one at the Crocus City Hall concert venue in Moscow on March 22, when 143 people were killed.
This was warned by an unnamed US federal official for the New York Post, who said that the ISIS-K branch is becoming bolder and that its members may try to exploit the "chaos" at the US-Mexico border and seek a target in the US.
- An attack on US soil is definitely possible - the source said.
The official pointed out that ISIS-K operatives can easily go undetected at the US southern border, where more than 256,000 migrants attempted to cross during February.
According to data from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), 169 terrorism suspects were stopped at the US southern border last year.
Since last October, another 69 terrorism suspects have been caught trying to cross the border.
The FBI stated that 15 terrorism suspects were stopped at the US border in 2021, while 2022 saw a dramatic increase to 98 suspects.
It is believed that hundreds of people from countries where ISIS-K actively recruits members cross the border each year.
ISIS-K originated in the Khorasan region, which includes parts of Iran, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, and is the operationally most capable branch of the Islamic State.
