More than 120 people were killed yesterday in a series of bombings in Syrian government-controlled areas, and US Secretary of State John Kerry said he had reached a preliminary agreement with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on a ceasefire that should take effect in a few days, for which there is still no Russian confirmation, reports the Patria News Agency.
In multiple explosions in the southern Damascus suburb of Sayyida Zeinab, at least 62 people were killed and more than 180 were injured, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced. In a double bombing attack in the Al Zahra district of the city of Homs, 59 people were killed, including 39 civilians, the Observatory announced.
The extremist group Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks in Homs and south of Damascus.
ISIL also announced that the attacks in Sayyida Zeinab were carried out by two suicide bombers, writes Index.
