ISIL active in Turkey as well: Five ISIL members killed after killing two police officers with explosives

This morning, a major clash occurred in the city of Diyarbakir, a city of the Kurdish minority in southeastern Turkey, in which five ISIL sympathizers and two Turkish police officers were killed, reports AFP, as carried by the Patria news agency.

This will further fuel the already heated situation in Turkey, which faces elections next weekend. This is the first time ISIL members have participated in fighting on Turkish territory.

Police entered several houses in a city district where ISIL members had set up camp, who opened fire, prompting a response from security forces, security sources reported.

A heavy exchange of fire continued through the morning in the same district, where police suspect other ISIL members have set up camp.

Two police officers lost their lives when ISIL members remotely activated devices placed around two houses surrounded by police, stated the pro-government Anatolia news agency. Four police officers were wounded.
