(Patria) - A high-ranking Iranian official stated that Tehran has submitted a new proposal to the United States, which envisages postponing the resolution of the nuclear issue to a later stage of negotiations, while focusing on de-escalation and economic measures in the meantime.
According to this proposal, Iran would open the Strait of Hormuz for international navigation, while the United States would lift the blockade of Iranian ports. It is also stated that both sides would provide security guarantees of non-aggression, including Israel.
This would be followed by detailed negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program, with the possibility of gradual lifting of sanctions. Iran seeks recognition of its right to peaceful uranium enrichment, with a possible temporary suspension of activities.
"Within this framework, the nuclear issue is moved to the final stage in order to create a more favorable environment for an agreement," said an unnamed official.
US President Donald Trump stated that he is "not satisfied" with Iran's proposal, emphasizing that some demands are not acceptable to Washington.
The United States has previously emphasized on several occasions that the goal is to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, while Tehran claims its program is exclusively for peaceful purposes.
In 2018, Trump withdrew the US from the nuclear agreement reached in 2015, which limited Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for lifting sanctions.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important routes for oil and gas transport, remains a central point of tension, while negotiations between the two sides continue to yield no concrete results.
