Iranian President at the UN: We have never sought weapons of mass destruction

(Patria) - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated during his address at the United Nations General Assembly that Iran has never sought and will never seek to build a nuclear bomb.

Pezeshkian began his speech by saying that the foundation of all divine religions and human conscience is not to do unto others what we would not want them to do unto us, Reuters reported.

- The recent attacks by Israel on Iran, with the support of the USA, are contrary to this rule. The attacks occurred precisely at a time when we were pursuing diplomatic negotiations, which constituted a grave betrayal of diplomacy and undermined efforts to establish stability and peace - said Pezeshkian.

According to him, this brazen act of aggression, in addition to targeting numerous commanders, citizens, children, women, scientists, and the intellectual elite of this country, has dealt a severe blow to international trust and the very prospect of peace in the region.

After calling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "criminal," Netanyahu also spoke about Tehran's nuclear program.

- I declare once again before this assembly that Iran has never sought and will never seek to build a nuclear bomb. We do not seek nuclear weapons. This is our conviction, based on an edict issued by the Supreme Leader and religious authorities. Therefore, we have never sought weapons of mass destruction, nor will we ever seek them - stated Pezeshkian.

Reuters reminds that the UN's nuclear watchdog, which conducts inspections in Iran, has stated that while it cannot guarantee that Iran's nuclear program is entirely peaceful, there are also no "credible indications" of an active, coordinated weapons program.
