(Patria) - Iran does not intend to develop nuclear weapons, but will not give up its right to nuclear energy and research, said Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, reiterating the religious edict of the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, against weapons of mass destruction.
"We are not seeking nuclear weapons," the Iranian president told parliament, but added that the country would continue to enrich uranium.
"We have the right to nuclear energy and research, and we will not allow anyone to take that away from us," Pezeshkian stated, reported the Iranian news agency IRNA.
Pezeshkian also called on Iranians to put aside their differences and unite on the fourth day of Israeli attacks that launched Tehran's retaliation against Israel.
"Every problem and every difference that existed today must be put aside, and we must unite together against this criminal and genocidal aggression," Pezeshkian emphasized in his address.
Israel announced on Friday that it had carried out the first attacks on Iran, stating that it had no other choice after gathering intelligence that Tehran was approaching a "point of no return" in its pursuit of nuclear weapons.
Israel attacked Iranian nuclear targets as the administration of US President Donald Trump was preparing for the sixth round of negotiations on Iran's escalating uranium enrichment program, which were also canceled.
Iran executed a man found guilty of spying for the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, the semi-official Fars agency reported this morning, as reported by Reuters.
This is the third execution in recent weeks for espionage in favor of Israel.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has been moved to an underground bunker in Lavizan, in northeastern Tehran, two well-informed sources from Iran told Iran International, given that Israel wants to liquidate him.
