(Patria) - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the US will bitterly regret the sinking of an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka.
In a post on the X platform, he wrote that it was a crime at sea, 2,000 miles from the Iranian coast.
He added that the Dena frigate, which was visiting the Indian Navy and carried almost 130 sailors, was hit in international waters without warning.
"Remember my words: the US will bitterly regret this move," Araghchi said.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth previously confirmed that a US submarine sank an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean.
"It was sunk by a torpedo, a silent death. This is the first sinking of an enemy ship by a torpedo since World War II. As then, when we were still the Ministry of War, we are fighting to win," Hegseth said.
Israel and the US have been attacking Iran since Saturday, and the country retaliated by targeting US bases in the Middle East and Tel Aviv. While criticism of the war the US has entered is pouring in from senators, congressmen, and the public in the US, Defense Secretary Hegseth told Israel that the US stands with them and to "continue to the end".
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated at a media briefing that they engaged "preventively" before Iran responded to Israel's attack. However, CIA intelligence did not point towards an Iranian attack on the US.
