Iran warns that ceasefire with US is in danger and threatens attacks on Israel

(Patria) - Iran's main military command warned on Monday that if Israel carries out attacks on the Lebanese capital Beirut, residents of northern Israel should leave the area if they do not want to be harmed, Al Arabiya reported.

The warning came after Mohsen Rezaei, an advisor to Iran's supreme leader, said that further escalation in Lebanon "will not be tolerated," adding in a post on social media platform X that "the patience of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran has limits."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered attacks on the southern suburbs of Beirut yesterday, triggering a new wave of displacement in a war that has already displaced more than one million people in Lebanon.

Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the United States bears responsibility for the violation of the ceasefire with Iran and the violations of the ceasefire committed by Israel in Lebanon. It stated that a violation of the ceasefire on one front is equivalent to a violation on all fronts.

The latest tensions threaten the fragile ceasefire between Iran and the United States that came into effect on April 8 after 39 days of war. Since then, the two sides have established contacts with the aim of turning the ceasefire into a broader agreement, but a final deal has not been reached.

Iran has repeatedly insisted that the ceasefire must apply on all fronts, especially in Lebanon, where Hezbollah, backed by Tehran, is fighting against Israel. Iranian officials have warned that the continuation of Israeli attacks in Lebanon could jeopardize the ceasefire and broader diplomatic efforts.

Earlier on Monday, Iranian state television reported that the likelihood of a breakdown of the ceasefire between Tehran and Washington is high if Israeli attacks on Lebanon continue.

Separately, Tasnim, a news agency linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reported that Tehran's negotiating team has suspended the exchange of messages with the United States through mediators in response to the attacks on Lebanon.
