Iran suspends obligations under nuclear deal, issues ultimatum to European countries

(Patria) – Iran has officially suspended some of the obligations arising from the 2015 nuclear non-proliferation agreement.

Iran announced this decision last week to the other signatories of this agreement – France, Germany, Russia, Great Britain, and China. The US unilaterally withdrew from the agreement a year ago by President Trump's decision, and re-imposed sanctions on Iran.

The agreement allowed Iran to produce low-enriched uranium with a limit of up to 300 kg, as well as heavy water with reserves of up to 130 tons. Any quantities exceeding the stated limits were to be sold outside the country by Iran.

Given that it has suspended precisely these obligations, Iran no longer has restrictions regarding uranium enrichment, heavy water, and stockpiling (instead of selling surplus).

We remind you that Iran has set an ultimatum for European countries to find an alternative business mechanism with Iran that bypasses US sanctions within 60 days, otherwise it will proceed with more intensive uranium enrichment. At the same time, the US has warned European countries that it will also impose sanctions on them if they do business with Iran.

France, Germany, and Great Britain have stated that they remain committed to the agreement, but will not agree to any ultimatum from Iran, Reuters reports.
