Iran celebrates 40th anniversary of Islamic Revolution

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - President of Iran Hassan Rouhani addressed a large number of people in Azadi Square, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, which took place on this day in 1979.

Millions of people across Iran participated in rallies to mark the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Most Iranians carried banners, posters and balloons with slogans and pictures of the founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini, and the leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Hundreds of foreign guests, including journalists, traveled to Iran to attend the event.

Members of all political parties and representatives of institutions are also attending the ceremonies, IRNA reports.

The ten-day period from the return of Imam Khomeini from Paris to Tehran on February 1, 1979, until the victory of the revolution on February 11, is celebrated every year in Iran.
