(Patria) - Efforts led by regional countries, including Pakistan, to mediate a ceasefire between the US and Iran have encountered obstacles, according to media reports.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Iran has officially told mediators that it is not ready to meet with US officials in Islamabad in the coming days. The report also states that Iran considers the US demands for an end to the war unacceptable.
Earlier this week, the Iranian Foreign Minister said that the country would only accept a permanent end to the war, not a temporary ceasefire.
Abbas Araghchi, one of Iran's top officials, added that Tehran has not yet responded to a 15-point peace proposal sent by the US seven days ago.
Donald Trump then claimed that Iran had requested a ceasefire, which Tehran denied.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the US-Israeli attack on Iran by phone today. Erdogan stated that Ankara does not approve of attacks on Iran, but equally does not support Iranian retaliatory actions against countries in the region. According to Turkish diplomatic sources, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues, writes Anadolu.
During the conversation, Erdogan warned that attacks on civilian ships in the Black Sea undermine regional stability. He emphasized that the conflict in the Middle East must not turn into a new point of escalation in the crisis between Russia and Ukraine.
The Turkish President also stressed that the aggressive policies of the Israeli government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must be prevented. He said that moves that violate the status of Jerusalem must not be allowed.
