Iran: War with the US and Israel led to the loss of over 700,000 jobs

(Patria) - Alireza Mahjub, Secretary General of the Iranian Workers' House, an influential officially recognized workers' organization, says that during Iran's war with the US and Israel, more than 700,000 jobs were lost.

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on April 22, Mahjub said that 130,000 people were directly left jobless due to the bombing of workplaces, while an additional 600,000 jobs were lost indirectly.

He also warned that the consequences of unemployment caused by the post-war economic crisis will be significantly more serious than these figures.

During the nearly six-week conflict, before a ceasefire was declared on April 8, some of the country's largest steel and petrochemical production facilities suffered serious damage in airstrikes, causing production to halt.

Other commercial and industrial facilities were also damaged.

Deputy Minister of Labor Mohammad-Hadi Asgari also said at yesterday's press conference that the Ministry of Labor is identifying the problems faced by affected companies and monitoring their resolution.

Asgari stated that the government will provide "support packages" to help rebuild damaged facilities, but did not provide further details.
