Iran fires ballistic missiles at Israel for first time since April

(Patria) - The Israeli military announced on platform X that it had identified missiles launched from Iran towards Israel.

"Defence systems are operating to intercept the threat," they said, as reported by Sky News.

The Israel Defense Forces, which earlier today carried out strikes on Beirut, also said they were preparing for fire towards Israel in the coming hours.

Israel earlier today struck targets in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, a stronghold of the Hezbollah militia, which is an ally of Iran.

Iran tonight fired its first missiles towards Israel since a ceasefire halted the US-Israeli war with Iran in April.

Ebrahim Rezaei, a senior adviser to Iran's supreme leader, said Iran had repeatedly warned it would not tolerate violations of the ceasefire and attacks on Lebanon.

"The aggressors received their response tonight," Rezaei said.

Rezaei is the spokesperson for Iran's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee and one of the main advisers to the country's supreme leader.

Earlier today, he warned that Tehran would give a "painful" response to Israel's attack on Beirut, where the Israeli military said it had struck a Hezbollah command centre.

The Israeli military announced that it had so far intercepted all missiles launched from Iran.

However, they added that they had detected additional missile launches towards Israel, with air defence units identifying and intercepting the threats.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said these attacks were only a warning.
