(Patria) - Spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Esmail Baghaei welcomed the ceasefire in Lebanon and thanked Pakistan for its assistance in reaching the agreement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic announced, TASS reported.
Esmail Baghaei emphasized that a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon is among Iran's preconditions for a ceasefire with the United States.
He expressed condolences to the families of those killed in Lebanon.
Baghaei called on Israel to withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon and rebuild the affected regions with the support of the international community.
US President Donald Trump said yesterday that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a ten-day ceasefire. In his opinion, the agreement can pave the way for lasting peace between the two nations.
Trump invited Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to meet for peace talks at the White House in the coming days.
