Iran denies involvement in Hamas attack on Israel

(Patria) - Iran denies helping plan Hamas's deadly attack on Israel following suspicions that Iranian security forces were involved and that Tehran gave the green light.

Two members of the militant groups Hamas and Hezbollah told The Wall Street Journal that Saturday's deadly attack was planned at meetings with Iran's Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) in August.

The newspaper states that approval was given by Iranian officials at a meeting in Beirut last Monday with representatives of Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Lebanese political faction.

"Officers of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard have been collaborating with Hamas since August on designing air, land, and sea incursions – the most significant breach of Israel's borders since the 1973 Yom Kippur War," the Wall Street Journal reports.

However, Iran's UN mission rejected Tehran's involvement.

"We explicitly stand with unwavering support for Palestine. However, we are not involved in Palestine's response, as it is solely undertaken by Palestine itself," stated Iran's UN mission.

Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, said that US officials have not yet seen evidence that Iran is behind the attack.
