Iraq finds Iranian cruise missile that was used to target US forces

(Patria) - The US military yesterday publicly thanked the Iraqi police for their discovery of a cruise missile that a US official said was aimed at American troops in the country.

"On January 3, Iraqi police in Babylon discovered a land attack cruise missile of Iranian design that failed to launch.

The use of Iranian supplied munitions by terrorist groups within Iraq and Syria endangers Coalition forces and local residents.

The Coalition is appreciative of the efforts of legitimate security forces in Iraq for their efforts to prevent future attacks," wrote the US Central Command on X.

The praise came after the office of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced the formation of a committee to prepare for the closure of the mission of the US-led international coalition in the country following a US strike against a militia leader blamed for attacks on American troops, Reuters reports.
