(Patria) - The Iraqi Islamic Resistance has claimed responsibility for shooting down a US Reaper drone.
In a statement on Friday, the Islamic Resistance, an umbrella group of Iraqi militias, claims to have shot down
an unmanned aerial vehicle "with appropriate weapons", PressTV reported.
It was announced that they shot down the "MQ-9 Reaper" drone over Diyala province, stating that the drone entered Iraqi airspace after taking off from the Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait.
The US military describes the MQ-9 as the first "hunter-killer" unmanned aerial vehicle designed for long-endurance, high-altitude surveillance. Concluding the statement, the Islamic Resistance vowed to "continue attacks on the enemy".
In recent years, the umbrella group has carried out many similar operations against targets associated with the United States as a means, they say, of resisting the US occupation. The group has intensified its attacks on Israeli and US targets since October 7 in protest of the war in the Gaza Strip and Washington's support for that attack.
