Representatives of the Turkish Foundation for Development of Relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina BIGMEV are intensively negotiating with local authorities in Sanski Most regarding the construction of a fish farm and fish processing plant with a capacity of 3,000 – 5,000 tons per year, writes the BiH news agency Patria.
BIGMEV representatives visited the lower course of the Sanica River, specifically the Hrustovo and Bare locations, and some other sites. An official visit by Turkish investors to Sanski Most could take place at the end of April, when negotiations would enter their final phase.
The President of the Fish Farmers' Group in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dževad Handžar, previously told Patria that fish farming is one of the most promising branches of the economy in BiH, but the state is still doing nothing to develop this sector.
– Thousands of workers who were once employed by aluminum complexes in the country could now be employed by fish farms – said Handžar.
According to statistical data, BiH is the tenth country in Europe in terms of fish production. This is, as experts explain, primarily due to the quality waters that our country has, which directly reflects on the quality of the fish meat itself, writes NAP.
