Fictitious statement by Governor Softić about cryptocurrencies circulating online

(Patria) - The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBiH) warns the public that a fictitious statement by CBBiH Governor dr. Senad Softić is circulating online, published as part of an article titled “Goran Bregović’s new financial interview can help Bosnians get rich”, which encourages citizens of BiH to invest in cryptocurrencies. CBBiH notes that this institution has never given and will never give statements suggesting any type of investment, including investment in cryptocurrencies.

The CBBiH's positions on cryptocurrencies and fintech are already known and have been published several times, in line with the policies of the European Central Bank (ECB), which advocates a conservative and cautious approach.

Given that this fictitious statement can be treated as support from the Governor and the CBBiH as an institution for making certain financial decisions, the CBBiH warns citizens to be cautious due to the fact that, along with the text containing the alleged governor's statement, instructions on investing in cryptocurrencies are also provided.

We also want to draw citizens' attention to the fact that this article is designed to give the impression that it was published by one of the news portals from Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the bottom of the article, there are positive comments, with which the author obviously wanted to increase the credibility of the content. The only thing that distinguished this article in appearance from an article from the original news portal was the link on which it is located.

Bearing all of the above in mind, as well as the trend of increasing internet fraud, the CBBiH calls on citizens to pay close attention to information disseminated online, especially concerning their assets and/or personal data.
