Institute for Economics and Peace: BiH still a risky country, conflicts possible

The deterioration of global peace last year was caused by terrorist activities, conflicts, the number of refugees and displaced persons. The past seven years show a downward trend, compared to the 60-year trend after World War II when a trend of increasing global peace was recorded, writes praguepost.com, reported by Patria.

The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) has prepared a report for 162 countries worldwide based on 22 indicators; according to domestic and international conflict, societal safety, and militarization. According to this report, BiH is in 61st place, Montenegro 54th, Serbia 52nd, and Croatia 26th.

However, the list of countries at risk of increased unrest and violence in the next two years is not very positive for BiH. BiH is ranked alongside Zambia, Haiti, Argentina, Chad, Nepal, Burundi, Georgia, Liberia, and Qatar.

The most peaceful region in the world remains Europe, while the least peaceful region is South Asia. Of the 162 countries worldwide, Syria is in last place in terms of safety, while Iceland is in first place.

As stated in the report, Europe leads the world in terms of overall peace levels, especially with the Scandinavian countries, but improvements have also been noted in the Balkans, an area that has traditionally been the most turbulent.

It is estimated that these developments have also affected the economic aspect, amounting to 11.3% of the world's GDP or 9.8 trillion US dollars, announced the Global Peace Index in London, reported by Patria.
