I'm immune, I feel powerful: Trump's first campaign rally after recovering from coronavirus

(Patria) – U.S. President Donald Trump held his first campaign rally on Monday since testing positive for Covid-19.

Trump arrived at the rally in Sanford, Florida without a protective mask. He threw several masks into the audience, among his supporters who stood shoulder to shoulder, mostly without masks.

- I went through it. They say I'm immune now. I feel so powerful, Trump told thousands of his supporters, adding that he would 'kiss everyone in the audience'.

Trump's return in his usual style of open campaigning and large rallies will mark the beginning of the last three weeks remaining until the election on November 3.

Reuters writes that Trump will try to change the dynamics of the race to neutralize Biden's lead in some states.

The rally in Sanford clearly shows that the U.S. President has no intention of changing his campaign approach despite the coronavirus, which has infected more than 7.8 million people in the U.S. since the beginning of the pandemic.

In his address, Trump emphasized that drastic epidemiological measures have greatly harmed the economy.

- It's risky, but you have to go out, Trump said as the audience chanted 'we love you'.

The rally in Sanford followed hours after the White House announced that the president had tested negative for Covid-19 and was not contagious.

Trump was later criticized for not encouraging rally attendees to wear protective masks and practice social distancing.

While Trump was leading the campaign rally in Florida, Dr. Anthony Fauci, a leading U.S. infectious disease expert, commented on CNBC that the country would be 'in big trouble' if citizens were not encouraged to wear masks and avoid mass gatherings, Reuters reported.
