Director of the Directorate for Tourism in the Ministry of Economy of Sarajevo Canton Appointed

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Directorate for Tourism has been officially established in the Ministry of Economy of Sarajevo Canton. It was founded back in 2008, but has never started operating until today. 

As Minister of Economy Adnan Delić previously stated, the condition for the Directorate to start operating was the selection and appointment of its director. However, since the call for applications was never published, this directorate remained merely a formality in the registry for almost 15 years.  

“For years, there was no one in the tourism sector within the Ministry of Economy, even though tourism is one of the strategic branches of the economy and an area from which we generate significant revenue, especially considering that hospitality and other service activities are closely linked to tourism. We believed it was necessary to establish this directorate and we have provided all the necessary conditions to achieve this,” said Minister Delić. 

After the Ministry published a public call at the beginning of February, and following the selection and appointment procedure, Indira Ibričić was appointed as the Director of the Directorate yesterday.  

Ibričić is a graduate economist with many years of experience working in the domestic and international business and financial fields.  

“I am aware of the importance and significance of tourism for the economy of Sarajevo Canton and the responsibility that comes with the position of Director of the Directorate for Tourism. I believe that the experience, knowledge, and skills I have gained through many years of work in the private sector can be utilized to contribute to the work of the Directorate. I also hope for open cooperation with colleagues from the Tourist Board and other organizations in developing tourism in our canton,” stated Director Ibričić.  

She also emphasized that she will immediately begin working on the Tourism Development Strategy of Sarajevo Canton, the adoption of which is a legal obligation. 

“We will immediately start working on drafting the Tourism Development Strategy, as it is the strategic basis for developing the sectoral tourism development strategy and other strategic documents,” explained Director Ibričić.  

As Minister Delić announced after the adoption of the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Tourism of Sarajevo Canton, preparations for the adoption of a new law on tourism, a law on the Tourist Board, as well as the drafting of the first law on hospitality in Sarajevo Canton will begin immediately upon the arrival of the director. 

“It is absurd that a Canton that generates the highest revenue from hospitality and other service activities does not have a law regulating this area. Therefore, the Directorate for Tourism is of exceptional importance, and it will, among other things, work on adopting legal regulations that will govern this area, thereby improving the labor rights of workers in this economic sector,” explained the minister.
