Ikanović: The resolution was an opportunity for the UN to admit its mistake from 1995, but Russia prevented it

Following the failure to pass the resolution on Srebrenica in the UN Security Council due to Russia's "NO", numerous reactions are coming in. Edin Ikanović, representing the First March Bratunac coalition, states that "looking at one hand, the resolution was adopted, only it doesn't exist as an official document on paper.", writes the BiH news agency Patria.

- We must keep in mind that only Russia was against it, while ten countries were "for" the resolution, which speaks volumes about the opinion of UN member states regarding the genocide in Srebrenica. We also must not forget the close relations, primarily between Serbia and Russia, and then of the RS entity itself, the monuments erected for Russian volunteers who participated in the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Expecting a different reaction from Russia was unimaginable. This was a unique opportunity for the UN Security Council to partially correct its mistake from July '95, for which there was a majority, but they were prevented from doing so by Russia's goodwill towards Serbia and the RS entity - states Ikanović.
