The coalition "Prvi mart" has responded to the claims of the Alliance for Change that ensuring proportional representation of ethnic groups in police bodies, in accordance with the 1991 Census, undermines the police reform process in the RS, according to a statement from the Coalition, as reported by the Patria news agency.
"First of all, the issue of ensuring balanced representation of ethnic groups is a standard that is fundamental for restoring trust in the police within the community. Do not forget that the police structures of the RS participated in genocide and war crimes, and that the RS must do everything necessary to restore a sense of security and trust in institutions to the citizens of this entity.
Look at the judiciary; there the principle of representation from 1991 has been respected, and it can be said that things in the courts function much better than in other institutions. In this regard, we welcome the constructive work of the representatives of 'Domovina' in the NSRS. Through amendments, we must strive to make bad solutions more favorable and better for our people," said Edin Ikanović from the coalition "Prvi mart".
"Look at the current situation. We will not have census results, we will not have any benchmarks or standards. The obligations from Annex 7 are considered a marginal issue, and it has remained just one point placed in the government's work plan, without any accountability or measurable results. Today we are in a position where we must act within the system in the RS, seeking rights for ourselves.
The work of councilors from the Bosniak people must be coordinated; we must propose constructive ideas and fight against discrimination within institutions. The effort to ensure representation in the police is along these lines. Do you think this will be implemented on the ground tomorrow? No chance, but at least we will have a basis for the fight. Rights begin in the text of the law, not in our idea of what should belong to us. Ensuring representation according to the 1991 Census must be an obligation of the entity authorities," concluded Ikanović.
