SARAJevo, (Patria) – Although it was expected that a new chief prosecutor of the BiH Prosecutor's Office would be elected at this week's session of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH, it is increasingly likely that there is an intention to annul the tender procedure.
"The VSTV Subcommittee proposed the annulment of the tender procedure for the election of the chief state prosecutor," reported the portal Istraga.ba.
The final decision will be made at the VSTV session. The candidates for the top position are Milanko Kajganić, Miroslav Janjić, and Diana Kajmaković.
Lawyer Asim Crnalić, as a guest on BHRT's morning program, said that he thought a new chief prosecutor would be elected this week, unaware of the VSTV Subcommittee's proposal.
Crnalić stated that politics is interfering with the election of the chief prosecutor in a certain way.
"The national composition is taken into account, but prior to that, candidates must meet professional requirements. The national composition is also an important criterion. So far, it has been taken into account with some exceptions," said Crnalić.
He also spoke about the Sky application case in the context that the names of certain prosecutors were mentioned in conversations via that application.
"It was said that two prosecutors were mentioned in the Sky application, and then some other prosecutor names were added related to that mention. Neither Oleg Čavka nor Diana Kajmaković were suspended; they were transferred to the War Crimes Department. My position is that the best prosecutors should be in that department. They have not been degraded in any way. Their transfer is not a mistake. If they were mentioned, the circumstances under which they were mentioned should be clarified. You cannot prevent people from mentioning you, from imputing to you that you are a corrupt person. But you cannot make any radical decisions based on the fact that someone was mentioned. It is much more important to prosecute war criminals than perpetrators of organized crime," said Crnalić.
When asked who was next in line to get the position of chief prosecutor, Crnalić said that "Serbs and Croats are next."
