SARAJevo, (Patria) - The Institute for the Research of Genocide Canada once again calls on Serbia to extradite war criminal Novak Đukić.
The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has imposed a sentence of 20 years in prison on Novak Đukić, former commander of the Army of Republika Srpska, who ordered the artillery shelling of Tuzla. By fleeing to Serbia, Đukić became unavailable to the Bosnian-Herzegovinian judiciary, and Serbian authorities refuse his extradition because he holds their citizenship.
"We once again call on Serbia to extradite the war criminal and allow justice to be served, as we owe it to the families of the victims and all future generations.
The crime must not go unpunished. By protecting and glorifying criminals, we send a very wrong message, especially to young people. We are still paying the consequences of such policies today with new innocent victims.
We call on the Republic of Serbia to extradite Novak Đukić, a convicted war criminal, guilty of the death of Tuzla's youth," stated the IGK press release.
It adds: "We call on the Republic of Serbia to face the historical fact that it committed aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and to admit that it did not act in accordance with the Genocide Convention. This would be the minimum for starting to build better state relations between the two neighboring countries."
