IGK supports the decision of the BiH Prosecutor's Office to review the criminal complaint against Zoran Milanović

(Patria) - The Institute for Genocide Research Canada {IGK} supports the decision of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina to review the criminal complaint against Zoran Milanović, President of Croatia, concerning the denial of the genocide in Srebrenica.

A criminal complaint was filed against Milanović for grossly downplaying the crime of genocide in Srebrenica committed by Serbian forces in July 1995. The complaint was filed due to Milanović's statement that "every genocide is not the same."

Milanović also denied the genocide in Srebrenica two months ago, during a meeting of participants in the Brdo-Brijuni Process in Slovenia, which prompted a sharp reaction from IGK.

In a letter to the European Commissioner for Human Rights, Dunja Mijatović, dated September 19 this year, regarding the continuous denial of the Srebrenica genocide by Milanović, IGK wrote, among other things:

"For some time now, Milanović has been making statements in which he denies and downplays the significance of the Srebrenica genocide. The latest statements were made at a meeting of regional leaders in Slovenia. The implications of the president of a NATO and EU member state, Croatia, publicly expressing denial and relativization of genocide in the current political climate of the Western Balkans and Europe as a whole cannot be ignored. In this period of instability in the wider region, it is particularly concerning that these statements are not isolated incidents but represent a long history of such statements by the President of the Republic of Croatia, Zoran Milanović. We ask for your position regarding such statements by the President of the Republic of Croatia, a member state of the EU and NATO, which dangerously, shamefully, anti-civilizationally, and dehumanizingly deny and downplay the legally recognized and adjudicated genocide in Srebrenica. We also ask you to take the necessary measures within your competence to prevent the dangerous denial of the Srebrenica genocide by the president of a European Union member state."

Conscious and intentional public denial of the Srebrenica genocide, which has been established by final verdicts of international and national courts, causes pain to the surviving victims of the genocide, degrades the judicial, scientific, and historical truth about the genocide, belittles justice, and humiliates international law and international institutions.
