Identified attackers from Brussels: Brothers Khalid and Brahim el-Bakraoui involved in Paris attack?

Two suicide bombers responsible for the terrorist attacks at Brussels airport are brothers Khalid and Brahim el-Bakraoui, reports the Patria news agency.

Belgian television RTBF claims that both were previously known to the police, and as the Guardian reports, the police had already been searching for them on suspicion of being linked to the attacks in Paris.

Khalid el-Bakraoui allegedly used a false name to rent an apartment in the Brussels district of Forest, where police found a fingerprint of Salah Abdeslam, the main suspect in the Paris attacks.

Detonators in gloves

Footage from security cameras at Brussels airport shows three men pushing luggage trolleys. The el-Bakraoui brothers are dressed in black and have a glove on their left hand, likely containing a detonator for the explosives in the suitcases in front of them.

The third man, in a white jacket and wearing a hat, is 24-year-old Najimu Laachraoui, who is on the run and actively being sought. He is suspected of making the explosives used during the terrorist attack in Paris.

Third bomb did not explode

The three suspects arrived at the airport by taxi with bombs in a suitcase.

"They arrived by taxi with suitcases containing bombs. They placed the suitcases on trolleys. The first two bombs exploded," said the mayor of Zaventem, Francis Vermeiren.

"The third also placed a suitcase on the trolley, but he must have panicked; the bomb did not explode," added Vermeiren.

Security camera footage shows one of the suspects moving away from the trolley and fleeing.

The police managed to find the taxi driver who brought them to the airport, which allowed them to learn the address from which they set off.

The police immediately conducted searches in the area around the railway station in the Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek and found an explosive device, filled with, among other things, nails, as well as chemical products for making bombs and a flag of the Islamic State, reports Index.
