Advertisements for the sale of various exotic animals in BiH, especially snakes, can often be found on the internet, reports the Patria news agency.

However, in BiH, in accordance with the Law on the Protection and Welfare of Animals, it is prohibited to keep as pets protected animals, wild animals, and animal species and breeds that are dangerous to life; the sale of exotic animals is also prohibited.

But this legal provision does not prevent many from having snakes, tarantulas, or other exotic and dangerous animals as pets.

Supervision over the implementation of this law and regulations adopted on its basis is carried out by the Office, the competent authorities of the entities and the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina, through official veterinarians. For now, there is no data on how many exotic animals have been confiscated or seized.

For example, on the internet portal olx.ba, it is possible to find and buy various types of exotic animals. One young man very transparently posted an advertisement for the sale of a snake, a dangerous python. The price of this snake, which the owner stated belongs to the Boa species, is 500 KM, and besides this advertisement, you can very easily obtain various types of spiders that cost from 30 KM and up.

Tarantulas cost from 30 KM

In addition to venomous animals, the advertisements also sell African ferrets, several species of turtles, and all types of equipment for breeding exotic animals.

Although the law does not specify what exotic animals are, snakes and venomous spiders certainly are.
