(Patria) – US President Donald Trump still considers Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido – the legitimate leader of that country, the White House announced on Monday, after Trump stated in a media interview that he could consider meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
– Nothing has changed. He (the president) still considers Juan Guaido the leader of Venezuela, said press secretary Kayleigh McEnany at a regular briefing. 'He has not lost confidence in him,' she added.
Juan Guaido (37) is a Venezuelan politician whom the National Assembly of Venezuela declared 'interim president' after voting no confidence in the current president, Nicolas Maduro. Guaido took the oath of office on January 23, 2019, which caused numerous clashes between supporters of the interim and current president.
Guaido is recognized by 50 countries around the world, including the US and Canada, while Maduro is still recognized by Russia, China, India, and other countries.
