IAEA: Iran has enough uranium for three atomic bombs

(Patria) - Iran has enough uranium enriched to 60 percent purity, close to weapons-grade, for three atomic bombs according to the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) definition, according to confidential IAEA reports on Wednesday.

Iran's stockpile of uranium enriched to 60 percent purity has increased by 6.7 kg to 128.3 kg since the last report on September 4, according to one of two reports to member states seen by Reuters.

This is more than three times the approximately 42 kg that the IAEA defines as theoretically sufficient, if further enriched, for a nuclear bomb. Weapons-grade is around 90 percent purity.

In a second report released on Tuesday, the agency said there has still been no progress on two burning issues in Iran: the reinstallation of additional monitoring equipment after it was removed on Tehran's orders last year, and obtaining answers about the origin of uranium particles found at two undeclared sites.

This is the second consecutive time that IAEA quarterly reports have stated there has been no progress on either issue.
