Zelensky also heading to Munich conference, numerous meetings with Americans expected

(Patria) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will participate in the Munich Security Conference (MSC), organizers announced yesterday, hoping to use it as a springboard "for progress towards peace in Ukraine".

Officials from the administration of US President Donald Trump will be present at the diplomatic meeting, which runs from Friday to Sunday.

"We assume that discussions will take place on the sidelines of the conference," MSC President Christoph Heusgen told reporters.

Zelensky recently said he was ready for direct negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other leaders to end the war that Moscow has been waging for almost three years.

The trip to Munich by US envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg is an "indication" for Heusgen that the conference could be an opportunity to discuss the "contours" of a peace plan for Ukraine.

The arrival of US Vice President J.D. Vance and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the gathering, also called the "Davos of security," has also been announced.

Zelensky said on Friday that Washington and Kyiv are planning "meetings and talks," without revealing dates or locations after Trump raised the possibility of a meeting with him.

"So far, neither side has expressed a desire for Russian officials to come to Munich," Heusgen added.

The Munich conference (February 14-16) takes place at a particularly sensitive moment, shortly after Trump's return to power has reignited speculation about peace negotiations to end the Russian invasion launched in February 2022.
