(Patria) - US President Donald Trump said last night that he is now turning his attention to a smooth and orderly transition of power, after Congress confirmed the election victory of Democrat Joe Biden.
"Congress has certified the results. A new administration will be inaugurated on January 20. I am now focused on ensuring a smooth, orderly, and seamless transition of power. This is a time for healing and reconciliation," Trump said in a video message posted on Twitter the day after his supporters stormed the Capitol in an attempt to prevent the confirmation of Biden's victory.
Trump condemned the violence, saying that the rioters "desecrated the seat of American democracy."
Those who committed violence do not represent our country, and those who broke the law will pay, Trump said.
"Serving you as president has been the greatest honor of my life," Trump stated in the video.
"And to all of my wonderful supporters, I want you to know that our incredible journey is just beginning."
