SDA also supported Šepić's initiative: Limit oil traders' margins and reduce announced price increases

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The BiH Parliament last night adopted the initiative of the Independent Bloc to determine the maximum margin for oil and oil product distributors.

This initiative calls on the Council of Ministers and entity governments to check the wholesale and retail margins of distributors, and to legally define them, with the aim of shifting part of the price increases, due to the introduction of additional excise taxes, onto the distributors and thus reduce price increases for end-users, citizens who use fuel.

- The government was completely unprepared when voting for and increasing excise taxes, which caused fuel price increases even higher than the amount of the latest excise taxes. Abuses are noticeable during these price increases that our citizens are suffering. There is various information, some of which was presented during the session, that the margin, or profit per liter of fuel, is 30-50 feninga, and some claim even more.

Therefore, we believe that the state must react and set this up transparently, investigate what these margins really are, and find a way for those who earn the most in these circumstances, i.e., oil and oil product distributors, to bear part of the burden of these price increases, and thus reduce and prevent chain price increases of other food items. This must be the role and job of the governments, and that is why we call on them to react urgently to our initiative, which the BiH Parliament has now accepted, and to inform the public about the results. We will certainly continue to monitor the implementation and exert pressure for the government to serve the people and protect their interests, stated Senad Šepić, president of the Independent Bloc and MP in the BiH Parliament.

This initiative was also supported by SDA, but MPs from the Alliance for a Better Future did not accept such a thing, nor did SNSD, which did not support this proposal.
